Happy belated 4th of July y'all! Do you guys get all pumped up about the 4th of July too?! Next to Christmas and Thanksgiving I have to say it's one of my favorite holidays. Maybe it's the military brat/wife in me or the history buff, but there is something about this holiday that has a special hold on me and my patriot's heart. I mean how could I not love the chance to celebrate the birth of my nation with great food, awesome company and pyrotechnics!
This year was a bittersweet one for me. Unlike last year my husband got to celebrate with us. Score one for us! To make it even better we were celebrating with the best in-laws ever. I know... I'm not biased at all! On the flip side all of friends are back on the island or on either coast of the mainland. They have become an extended part of my family and I miss them more everyday, especially as this move continues to drag on. It is even harder to not have them around when the holidays hit.
My in-laws were a great help to fill the void of missing them. Did I mention that my in-laws are the freakin' bomb? They found the BEST place to watch fireworks in all of Albuquerque, the Balloon Fiesta Field. Each year they have a band play before the fireworks and this year was one I grew up with....wait for it....LONESTAR!! I was over the moon excited! We grabbed funnel cake, which I hadn't had since 2010, and freshly squeezed strawberry lemonade to enjoy while we listened. The girls thought it super yummy and I had to fend them off with my mad ninja skills! Okay I may have just given in and let them have it....
It wasn't until the announcers got up after LoneStar that we found out that the Balloon Fiesta display was the largest in all of New Mexico this year! Once it started it was one right after the other of pure pyrotechnic artistry. It took us over an hour to leave the parking lot, but it was so worth it.
Truly it was the best farewell we could ask for. The next morning we left on the next part of our move to Alabama. Thus far we have made it as far as New Orleans, with stops in Fort Worth and Lubbock.
You should pop on over to see how my girl Candice did this week back on Oahu!
